Emerging from customer requests for technology capable of collecting and mapping
farmer's fields, Red Hen Systems began in 1994 as an OEM developer of in-field data
collection and mapping software solutions for precision agricultural applications.
Incorporated in 1997, Red Hen Systems was an early leader in the use of differentially
corrected GPS (Global Positioning System) data to sample and map unique field
attributes along with processing and mapping of yield monitor data. We have strong
roots in geo-referenced data collection in the field and in the process of turning
that data into maps for improved decision making. From an idea based on the need to aid crop scouts in the identification and location of weeds and pests in the field emerged our VMS 200 video mapping system in 1998. This began a new frontier in the use of "imagery" in mapping that brought images up from being used as simple background layers to using images to communicate actual documentation of conditions at a location.
As applications for geo-referenced spatial images grew, so did Red Hen's market
focus area grow beyond its agricultural roots. Today, Red Hen Systems provides
technology to a wide variety of markets including the GIS professional, military uses,
natural resource and environmental applications, transportation, and utilities to
name a few. The possibilities are endless for scenarios where geo-referenced images
embedded in a map enrich the value of mapped information and extend the decision
making capability of the user. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
The addition of images to a location on a map and the ease of use in communicating
and sharing information with others are the key values of Red Hen technology.
Current product offering have expanded from video encoded with VMS 200 data to
digital still cameras, hand-held GPS receivers and most recently, spatially
referenced DVD data. Grown in the field of agriculture, expanded to a wide
scope of market applications beyond.
